Archaeological Museum of Chios
Description
The Chios Museum building was built in 1971 on a plot of land granted by the Municipality of Chios in the 1960s, in the Mezaria location, where the Turkish cemetery used to be. It was designed by the Antonakaki couple and is representative of the aesthetics and museological concepts of the above decade.
The opening of the first exhibition took place after the post-colonization in 1977. The exhibition then included two halls and two semi-outdoor spaces, while the separate building at the entrance of the Museum was to be used as a space for periodical exhibitions.
