Ancient Theatre of Milos
Description
The Ancient Theatre of Milos is located on the slope of a hill, where the ancient city of Milos once stood, between the Trypiti and Klima settlements. It is positioned at a remarkable site overlooking the gulf of Milos. It is a luxurious work from the Roman era (1st to 4th centuries AD). Its construction must have been long-lasting and carried out in stages, with possible phases of reshaping. It is a notable example of a theatre structure from its time, displaying features found in the Roman and Romanized theatres in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire, modelled after Greek theatres. The hitherto excavations have unearthed the orchestra, a part of the cavea, the stage structure, and the western retaining wall. After the completion of the restoration works in July 2016, the theatre can now host around 700 audience members.
