Archaeological Museum of Chalkis, “Arethousa”
Description
The new Archaeological Museum of Chalkis, “Arethousa”, was inaugurated in May 2021. It is housed in the industrial building of the distillery “Arethousa”, which closed down in 1980 and has been designated as a listed monument of cultural heritage. The Museum hosts a thematic exhibition which showcases the building’s history along with key events in the history of Euboea, from the memorial structure at Lefkanti to the colonization and spread of the Euboean alphabet, and from the sanctuary of Artemis in Aulis and the legend of Iphigenia to the Byzantine and Ottoman rule in Chalkis.
