Byzantine walls of Drama

There is no castle in Drama. However, there are remains of the Byzantine walls of the city which until now were completely neglected and unrecognized.

Several sections are preserved in the northern quarter of the city, around the church of Agia Sophia. In addition, there are other sections inconspicuous and scattered throughout the city, in house yards, in open areas, etc. It is characteristic that in Drama, very often, parts of the wall serve to demarcate properties!
