Museum of Zakynthos

Description

The Museum of Zakynthos is housed in a majestic neoclassical building, on the central square of the city of Zakynthos. It hosts one of the most important painting collections of the Post-Byzantine period. Displayed in its halls are pictures from the Cretan School, “Cretan-Ionian” pictures, and works of Ionian naturalism, dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Also showcased are Byzantine and Post-Byzantine frescoes, wood-carved templa, ecclesiastical vessels, and sculptures from temples on the island that are now destroyed.
