Polycentric Museum of Aigai (Aegae)

Description

The Polycentric Museum of Aigai, which opened in December 2022, is a modern cultural complex in Vergina dedicated to the history of Aigai, the first capital of the Macedonian kingdom. The museum combines archaeological findings with digital technologies, offering visitors a holistic cultural experience. Its main building is home to exhibitions such as “Aigai Memory” and “Oecumenical Antidoron”, along with a semi-open-air exhibition of sculptures from the city’s sanctuaries. Moreover, the museum houses the actual site of the digital museum “Alexander the Great: from Aigai to Oecumene.” It serves as a reference point for understanding Macedonian history and civilization.
