Prodromos Konak, Karditsa
Description
Prodromos Konak is built on the eastern border of a settlement, atop the hill of Saint Ioannis. It is one of the most remarkable and most typical examples of a chiflik-owner’s house in the plain of Western Thessaly. It was constructed before Thessaly was freed by the Turks in 1881, as the residence of Ottoman Ekrem Bey, owner of the chiflik (feud). It is a two-story house made of stone, with a tile roof, and a protruding three-story tower, which was also used as an observatory of the neighbouring lands that belonged to the chiflik. The layout is shaped like a broadened cross and it has two entrances.
