Archaeological Museum of Ioannina
Description
The Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, designed by architect Aris Konstantinidis, opened in 1970. It is located in Litharitsia Park, in the city centre. Its collections cover the history of Epirus from the Lower Paleolithic Era, roughly 250,000 years ago, to the late Roman Era. Its seven halls and the central corridor feature findings from significant archaeological sites, such as Dodoni, the Nekromanteion of Acheron, and Vitsa. The exhibits include stone and bone tools, tombstones, architectural remnants, inscriptions, and coins. The museum provides a comprehensive overview of Epirus’ cultural heritage and serves as a major cultural attraction for the wider region.
