Archaeological Museum of Vathi of Ithaca
Description
The Archaeological Museum of Vathy is a major cultural venue on Ithaca, featuring the island’s history from the Mycenaean to the Roman periods. Its collections include vessels, jewelry, tools, coins, and inscriptions that shed light on the inhabitants’ daily life and economic activity.
Particularly notable are the Mycenaean findings associated with the tradition that Ithaca was Odysseus’s homeland. This is the first time archaeological material from the excavations at Apollo’s Sanctuary at Aetos has been presented. The museum plays a vital role in preserving and promoting the island’s cultural heritage, offering visitors a concise overview of its centuries-long history.
