Archaeological site of Abdera, Xanthi
Description
The archaeological site of Abdera, at Cape Bouloustra, comprises the northern and southern yards, the acropolis of the ancient city, and its cemeteries, which mainly extend to the Northwest, North, and Northeast, dating back to the archaic, classical, and Hellenistic periods. In the northern yard, there are surviving parts of the wall along with one-room buildings from the ancient city of Klazomenia dating back to the 7th century BC, sections of the Teioi wall from the 6th-5th centuries BC, a dock from the same period located at the north-eastern edge of the port before the area became dry land due to silting, remains of a sanctuary dedicated to Demetra and her Daughter (Kore) from the 6th-4th centuries BC, and the Hellenistic cemetery.
