Twin Ottoman Bath of Trikala
Description
The Twin Ottoman Bath of Trikala, dating back to the 16th century, is one of the most important monuments of the Ottoman period in the city. With its distinctive architecture and impressive domes, it reflects the significant social role that public baths once played as places of hygiene and social interaction. For more than a century, the monument remained hidden within the grounds of the former Trikala Prison, which operated from 1893 to 2006. The excavation, restoration, and enhancement works began in 2011 under the supervision of the Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, in connection with the establishment of the Vassilis Tsitsanis Research Centre and Museum. Today, the bath has been fully restored and is open to visitors, serving as an important landmark of Trikala’s cultural heritage.
