Description
The exhibition Paradise Drift will be presented at the Phaistos Archaeological Site and the Archaeological Museum of Messara in Crete on 21 and 22 August 2026. Taking the island as an imagined site where paradise is constructed, projected, and consumed, the exhibition approaches paradise imagery beyond the promise of happiness, as a political mechanism that organizes desire, movement, and ways of life.It asks how the experience of place becomes destabilised when a site ceases to be lived and operates instead primarily as backdrop and image. Installations, sculptural works, video, sound works, and contemporary dance, activated throughout the programme, reveal how island “paradises” function as points of convergence for economic, ecological, and cultural forces, producing fluid balances of exposure, care, and vulnerability. The exhibition proposes a renewed understanding of islands as active fields in which communities continue to inhabit, resist, and renegotiate the present and their possible futures.
